Go Through Your Old Photos

Writer's picture: Steven HansenSteven Hansen

Remember that one candid snapshot someone took of your grandma (or dad, or sister, or you) laughing like crazy at some fool thing somebody just said? It’s your favorite photo from that family get-together because it’s unposed -- totally spontaneous and full of real joy. Every time you look at that photo, it brings you a rush of instant happiness!

“Photographs are such a joy, “says writer Gretchen Rubin. “Photos remind us of the people, places, and activities we love. Photos help us remember the past. One of the best ways to make yourself happy in the present is to recall happy times from the past. Photos are a great memory-prompt, and because we tend to take photos of happy occasions, they weight our memories to the good.”

You know you really need to organize that shoebox or jump drive full of old snapshots, anyway. So, pull out the ones that bring the biggest smile on your face and take a few minutes to savor and relive the happy occasions they capture.
